World Environment Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm on 5th June, 2026 at BCT Law College under the guidance of the Principal, Dr. Sanavi Deshmukh. The programme witnessed active participation from students, faculty members, and non-teaching staff. The event commenced with a discussion on the significance of World Environment Day and the growing environmental challenges faced by society today. Rising air pollution, plastic waste, climate change, deforestation, and the depletion of natural resources have made environmental conservation more important than ever. Participants highlighted that World Environment Day is not merely a celebration but an opportunity to create awareness and inspire collective action towards protecting the environment. As part of the celebration, a tree plantation drive was organized on the college campus. Students and faculty members planted various saplings and conveyed the message of environmental protection. It was emphasized that tree plantation plays a vital role in reducing carbon dioxide levels, improving air quality, regulating temperature, and preserving biodiversity. Therefore, planting and nurturing trees is one of the most effective ways to combat pollution and maintain ecological balance. A unique feature of the programme was the “Adopt-a-Tree” initiative, under which students pledged to adopt and care for the saplings they planted. They voluntarily accepted responsibility for watering, monitoring, and nurturing their respective plants to ensure their healthy growth. The initiative aimed not only at tree plantation but also at long-term tree conservation. Being law students and future legal professionals, the participants expressed their views on environmental protection and emphasized that safeguarding the environment is not only a social responsibility but also a constitutional duty of every citizen. They appealed to society to adopt eco-friendly practices such as reducing plastic usage, conserving water, maintaining cleanliness, and planting more trees. Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sanavi Deshmukh, Principal, encouraged students to remain environmentally conscious and actively contribute to environmental conservation. She stressed that, as future legal professionals, students have an important role to play in spreading awareness about environmental protection and promoting sustainable development within society. The programme concluded with an environmental pledge taken by all participants. The event successfully conveyed a strong message of environmental conservation and helped create greater awareness among students regarding their responsibility towards building a greener and more sustainable future.
