The Debate Society of Bhagubai Changu Thakur College of Law, New Panvel successfully organised “Parliamentum – Youth Parliament 2026”, a two-day intercollegiate Youth Parliament competition held on 4th August 2026 and 5th August 2026 at Bhagubai Changu Thakur College of Law. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 16 colleges from across the state, providing students with a platform to develop their parliamentary skills, public speaking abilities, legal reasoning and awareness of contemporary issues. The event commenced with the inaugural ceremony, which was graced by Honourable Chairman of J.B.S.P Sanstha, Shri Ramsheth Thakur, along with Principal Ma’am, Dr. Sanavi Deshmukh and BA. LLB. Co-ordinator Dhanashri Chougale, whose constant guidance and encouragement played an important role in the successful organisation of the event. The organising team, under the guidance of the Principal Ma’am and the faculty coordinators, worked extensively to ensure the smooth and disciplined conduct of the competition. DAY 1 – 04 August 2026 The first day of Parliamentum – Youth Parliament 2026 comprised the Preliminary Round, wherein participating teams from various colleges actively engaged in parliamentary proceedings. Slot 1 was presided over by Speaker of the House Ms. Vaidehi Ware and adjudicated by Adv. Deepali Bohara, while Slot 2 was presided over by Ms. Riya Shukla as the Speaker of the House and adjudicated by Adv. Bhakti Dalvi. Throughout the proceedings, the participants displayed commendable confidence, research, parliamentary etiquette, articulation and effective argumentation, setting a strong foundation for the subsequent rounds of the competition. DAY 2 – 05 August 2026 The second day featured the Semi-Final & Final Round, where the shortlisted teams competed for the coveted positions. The proceedings included Question Hour and Bill Discussion details and were conducted in accordance with the prescribed rules of Parliamentum 2026. The semifinal round was evaluated by Mr. Vishal Kate as the speaker of the house and Adv. Shivani Gharat (PMC Corporator) as judge of the round. The final round was evaluated by an esteemed panel comprising Dr. Ashok Yende, as the judge along with Mr. Tapanmohan Karveer serving as the Speaker of the House. After an intense and competitive final round, ● KC Law College emerged as the Winner of Parliamentum ● HVPS College of Law secured the Runner-Up position. Individual awards were also presented as follows: ● Best Speaker: Meher Kazi (K.C College) ● Best Parliamentarian: Kshitij Ranade (D.Y Patil School of Law) ● Best Female Attire: Suhani Kalor (D.Y Patil College of Law) ● Best Male Attire: Sahil Jitendra Singh (H.V.P.S) The awards recognised not only parliamentary knowledge and oratory skills but also confidence, presentation, parliamentary conduct and overall participation throughout the competition. The event concluded with the valedictory ceremony and prize distribution, where the winners and outstanding participants were felicitated for their performances. The successful completion of Parliamentum 2026 was made possible through the collective efforts of the Debate Society, faculty coordinators Asst Prof Aishwarya Patole, Asst Prof Shilpa Rathod, Asst Prof Neha Kachi, organising committee, volunteers and student members. The event was a significant learning experience for all those involved and successfully achieved its objective of promoting parliamentary debate, leadership, research, teamwork and constitutional awareness among law students.
