On 5th of July 2025, Bhagubai Changu Thakur College of Law, Legal Aid Committee, in collaboration with District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) organized “Seminar on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking” under the guidance and patronage of our respected Principal, Dr. Sanavi A Deshmukh Madam and Legal Aid Committee Incharge, Asst. Prof. Dr. Mamta Bhattacharjee. The Seminar was adorned with presence of eminent dignitaries from Panvel Court and Panvel Bar Association, namely, Hon’ble Ld. CJJD and JMFC, Panvel Court, Smt. Sanjana Uday Jaguste Madam, Senior Advocates and members of DLSA, Panvel Bar Association Adv. Indrajeet Anandrao Bhosale, Adv. Deepali Bohra and Para Legal Volunteer (PLV, Panvel Court ) Mr. Shailesh Konduskar. The students from 5 Yrs. B.A. LL.B. , 3Yrs. LL.B. and 2 yrs. LL.M., B.A. LL.B. Co-ordinator, Asst. Prof. Mrs. Dhanashri Y Kadam, IQAC co-ordinator Asst. Prof. Mr. Raghav Sharma and esteemed faculty members of our College attended the Seminar. The Seminar initiated with welcoming of the guests, lighting of lamp and singing of Maharashtra Geet. The Introductory speech given by Mr. Shailesh Konduskar, Para Legal Volunteer (PLV, Panvel Court) kindled the fire against Drug Abuse and set the momentum of the Seminar. Adv. Deepali Bohra, explained about NALSA and DLSA, she also gave details about the formation of Jagriti Committee by Hon’ble Chief Justice of India, Justice Bhusan Ramkrishna Gavai, bringing to light how the Committee can be approached by the poor and vulnerable sections of the community in their fight for attaining justice. The entire provision of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotopic Substances Act, 1985, ( NDPS Act ) was articulately explained by Adv. Indrajeet Anandrao Bhosale, emphasizing and highlighting the role of an Advocate when an accused who is put behind the bars on charges of drug abuse or in any form possessing any kind of narcotic substances, it is not only the individual who suffers but the entire family has to undergo the trouble as the accused has to spend a minimum period of punishment which has been prescribed for one year. Hon’ble Ld. CJJD and JMFC, Panvel Court, Smt. Sanjana Uday Jaguste Madam addressed the audience emphasizing the need for engaging in legal aid activities and the evil impact of substance abuse which may be in any form. She explained in summary the impact of the penal provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotopic Substances Act, 1985, ( NDPS Act ) and role of lawyers in spreading awareness about drug abuse. The concluding address was given by our respected Principal, Dr. Sanavi A Deshmukh Madam rejuvenated the spirit of imparting free legal aid as provided under Article 21 of Constitution of India and to put a stop to the extensive spread of drug abuse. The Seminar concluded with singing of the National Anthem and taking the commemorative group photograph.
