JBSPS’s Bhagubai Changu Thakur College of Law, New Panvel, successfully organized a commemorative event to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of 'Vande Mataram' on Friday, November 7, 2025. The program was meticulously planned by Dr. Sanavi Deshmukh,I/c Principal, and executed by Asst. Prof. Dr. Mamta Bhattacharjee, Incharge, National Day Celebration Committee and Asst. Prof. Aishwarya Patole, Incharge, Cultural Committee of the College, adhering to the guidelines set by the University of Mumbai. The objective was to pay tribute to the song's profound historical and cultural significance. ‘Vande Mataram’ is more than just a patriotic song; it is an emotional expression of devotion to the motherland. Written by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay’s Bengali novel Anandamath in the late 19th century, this iconic composition played a vital role in shaping India’s national consciousness during the struggle for independence. The phrase “Vande Mataram” translates to “I bow to thee, Mother”, symbolizing the respect, gratitude, and love Indians hold for their motherland. A famous excerpt from the original poem states: “Vande Mataram!” Sujalam suphalam, Malayaja-shitalam, Sasyashyamalam, Mataram!” The event was graced by the presence of Dr Satya Prakash Misra, Chairperson, National Day Celebration Committee and Cultural Committee, Principal Ma'am, Dr Sanavi Deshmukh, B.A. LL.B. Co-ordinator, Asst. Prof. Dhanashri Y. Kadam Ma'am, respected Faculties and students of the College. The commemoration of the 150th Anniversary of 'Vande Mataram' at Bhagubai Changu Thakur College of Law commenced promptly at 10:00 a.m. with a traditional Lamp Lighting Ceremony led by the Distinguished Guests, formally initiating the event and symbolizing the triumph of knowledge over darkness. This was followed at 10:30 a.m. by the collective singing of 'Vande Mataram' by all attendees, performed in adherence to mandatory University of Mumbai guidelines. The intellectual segment began at 10:45 a.m. with an insightful explanation of 'Vande Mataram' delivered by Arya Kadam, 1st. Yr. B.A. LL.B. student who elaborated on the song's profound historical, literary, and national importance. A beautiful Bharatnatyam Dance Performance was presented, by Brishi Giri, a 1st. Year B.A. LL.B. student, offering a classical tribute to the patriotic spirit. This was followed by patriotic song performance by students Nupur Paranjpe and Sakshi Kotian, both from 1st. Year B.A. LL.B. A The Chairperson, Dr. Satya Prakash Misra, delivered a speech on patriotism highlighting the significance and role of Vande Mataram in our lives and how passionately should we inculcate the lyrics of the song in our day to day life as a proud Indian. Our Principal Ma'am, also laid stress upon the enduring relevance of the national song and its values. The entire program, anchored smoothly by Asst. Prof. Aishwarya Patole Ma'am, which concluded with the Vote of Thanks, delivered by Payal Gharat, 1st. Year B.A. LL.B. , acknowledging the collective efforts of both the Committees along with the entire teaching, admin staff and non-teaching staff for the successful execution of the event. The celebration successfully commemorated the 150th year of 'Vande Mataram', instilling a sense of national pride and historical awareness among the faculty and students. The diverse range of cultural and intellectual activities ensured that the event was meaningful and aligned with the University's mandate for such national celebrations.
