The Intra-Collegiate Moot Court Competition organized by the Moot Court Society, was held under the guidance of the In-charge Principal of Bhagubai Changu Thakur College of Law, New Panvel, Mrs. Sanavi Deshmukh ma’am, on 10th August 2024 in Moot Court Hall. The faculty In-charge of the event was Asst. Prof. Ms. Aparajita Gupta, In-charge of the Moot Court Society.
The inaugural ceremony was hosted by Mr. Humanshu Meshram and was graced by Dr. Vinayak H. Vishwas, Civil Judge J.D. and J.M.F.C. who is a distinguished legal expert with extensive experience in the field of law. Sir delivered an insightful address, highlighting the importance of moot court competitions in shaping the legal acumen of future lawyers.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 18 teams which involved students from various classes including B.A., LL.B., and LL.B. students. Members of Moot Court Society and Student Council were actively involved in the event.
The competition included three rounds, preliminary, semi-final and final. It served as a stimulating platform where students were given the opportunity to demonstrate their legal knowledge and advocacy skills. The moot problem centered around Right to privacy and Freedom of Speech and expression which challenged the participants to delve into complex legal issues and present well-reasoned arguments.
The competition was judged by a distinguished panel of faculty members and legal experts, which included Adv. Faizan Shaikh accompanied with Asst. Prof. Dr. Mamta Goswami , Adv. Suyash Bartake accompanied with Asst. Prof. Mrs. Ravnish Bector and Adv. Asmita Mishra accompanied with Asst. Prof. Mrs. Anam Mehendikar as judges for preliminary rounds and Mrs. Amruta Suryavanshi, Assistant Professor in GES Law College accompanied with Asst. Prof. Mrs. Dhanshri Kadam as a judge for Semi-final round and Dr. Ashish Borse, Assistant Professor in K.C. Law College accompanied with Mrs. Sanavi Deshmukh ma’am as judge for the Final round, who commended the participants for their thorough preparation and persuasive arguments. The judges offered constructive feedback, helping students refine their legal reasoning and courtroom etiquette. The judging of the memorials for the competition was meticulously done by Asst. Prof. Mr. Raghav Sharma.
The event successfully met its objectives of enhancing students' understanding of the law and providing them with a practical experience of courtroom proceedings. The success of the event was amplified by the faculty co-ordinator Asst. Prof. Mr. Sangram Pawar and active involvement of the student volunteers who played a pivotal role in coordinating the ceremony and ensuring its smooth execution. The volunteers included members of Moot Court Society and Student Council.
The session concluded with a Valedictory ceremony which was graced by the Chief guest Dr. Ashish Borse Sir and Vice- chairman of Janardhan Bhagat Shikshan Prasarak Sanstha Shri Y.T. Deshmukh Sir and hosted by Ms. Mrunal Patekar and Ms. Disha Dhone. The team comprising Ms. Karuna Goswami, Ms. Supriya Mishra and Ms. Ketki Kamble emerged as the winners of the competition followed by Ms. Isha Rahane, Ms. Yashwini Naik and Ms. Avantika Gavand as Runner-up and Mr. Bhushan Patil, Ms. Vandana Jadhav and Ms. Kamini Patil as 2nd Runner-up. The Best Mooter award was presented to Ms. Yashwini Naik followed by Ms. Supriya Mishra as Runner-up and Ms. Isha Rahane as 2nd Runner-up. The Best Researcher award was presented to Ms. Ankita Bhoir followed by Ms. Kamini Patil as Runner-up and Ms. Avantika Gavand as 2nd Runner-up. The Best Memorial award was presented to Mr. Bhushan Patil, Ms. Vandana Jadhav and Ms. Kamini Patil followed by Ms. Isha Rahane, Ms. Yashwini Naik and Ms. Avantika Gavand as Runner-up and Ms. Pournima Tukaram Beble, Mr. Prajwal Nitin Padole and Mr. Parth Pankaj Nazare as 2nd Runner-up.
A heartfelt vote of thanks was delivered by Asst, Prof. Ms. Aparajita Gupta who expressed gratitude to the Principal, the guest of honour, faculty members, participants, and the entire volunteers team for their contributions to making the event a grand success.
