The third day of the Janardan Bhagat Shikshan Prasarak Sanstha Lecture Series, organized by Bhagubai Changu Thakur College of Law, focused on the critical topic of Women’s Safety under the New Criminal Laws. The event was guided by I/C Principal Mrs. Sanavi Deshmukh and featured Dr. Shrividya Jaykumar, Principal of VPM’s TMV Law College, Thane, as a resource person. The session was attended by faculty, and students, making it an enriching experience. The program commenced with a warm welcome to the guests, followed by the soulful expression of the Maharashtra Geet, which set a reflective and inspiring tone for the session. The traditional lighting of the lamp ceremony was performed by the resource person, Dr. Shrividya Jaykumar, along with I/C Principal Mrs. Sanavi Deshmukh, BA.LL.B Coordinator Mrs. Dhanashri Kadam , and Dr. Mamta Goswami. This symbolic gesture marked the beginning of an enlightening discourse. Following this, I/C Principal Mrs. Sanavi Deshmukh felicitated the resource person and acknowledging ma’am’s contributions to legal education and expertise in criminal law. The event proceeded with an introduction of Lecture series by faculty coordinator Dr. Kranti Bhovate, who gave quick reviews of lecture series and highlighted the significance of the topic and its relevance in the contemporary legal landscape and setting the stage for the lecture. Resource person delivered an insightful lecture, analysing provisions for women’s safety under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and comparing them with the Indian Penal Code (IPC) with referenced landmark case laws, critically examined the strengths and limitations of the new criminal laws, and discussed evolving judicial interpretations and simplified complex legal concepts, leaving a lasting impact on the audience. An interactive Q&A session followed, where students raised questions about implementation challenges, judicial roles, and women’s safety. The responses of resource person provided clarity on legal provisions, enhancing students’ understanding, Principal Ma’am concluded the session by encouraging students to engage in legal reforms and contribute to societal equity. The program concluded with the National Anthem, followed by a group photoes. The program was hosted by Miss Mrunal Patekar (3rd-year BA.LL.B) and concluded with a vote of thanks by Miss Chaitrali Kane (4th-year BA.LL.B). The lecture series proved to be a thought-provoking and impactful event, inspiring students to critically engage with legal reforms and their societal implications.
