The Bhagubai Changu Thakur College of Law, New Panvel, organized an educational visit to the Government Forensic Science Laboratory, Kalina , Mumbai on 4th November 2025 for the students enrolled in the Certificate Course on Forensic Science and Criminal Investigation. The visit was conducted under the guidance of the In-charge Principal, Dr. Sanavi Deshmukh Ma’am, and the co-ordinator ship of Asst. Prof. Aparajita Gupta.
The visit aimed to acquaint students with the functioning of forensic laboratories and their vital role in criminal investigations and judicial proceedings. Upon arrival, students were cordially welcomed by the laboratory officials and were briefed about the structure, objectives, and major divisions of the laboratory including Biology and Serology, Ballistics, Toxicology, Chemistry department, and Cyber Forensics.
The students were given a guided tour of various sections of the lab, where scientific officers explained the methods used for evidence examination, DNA profiling, polygraph test and narco-analysis, ballistic testing, and toxicological procedures. They also emphasized the importance of scientific accuracy, chain of custody, and the integration of forensic findings in criminal justice.
Students had the opportunity to interact with the experts, who elaborated on the challenges and advancements in forensic investigation and its significance in ensuring fair and efficient justice delivery. The visit enhanced students’ understanding of the interdisciplinary link between law and science, giving them valuable insights into real-life applications of forensic principles.
The college extended heartfelt gratitude to the Director and staff of the Government Forensic Science Laboratory for their warm hospitality and cooperation. The visit proved to be an informative and inspiring experience, strengthening the students’ academic and practical knowledge in the field of forensic science and criminal investigation.
